How we build the guide

Where the data comes from

Business locations, names and opening hours come primarily from OpenStreetMap, the collaborative map maintained by volunteers, used under the Open Database Licence. We complement it with our own research on businesses that Australians frequently search for, using publicly available information.

How places are selected

We include bakeries, hot bread shops, patisseries, cake shops, dessert bars, gelato and ice cream shops, frozen yogurt bars, doughnut shops and lolly and chocolate shops. Cafés and restaurants are only included when baking or desserts are clearly their main business. Businesses marked as closed are removed.

Locations and suburbs

Each business is placed in its suburb using official locality boundaries, and grouped into cities using Australian statistical and local government areas. Maps pin the exact coordinates of the shop.

Opening hours and live status

Opening hours describe a normal week. The open/closed status is calculated at the minute you view the page, in the business’s own state time zone. Public holidays and temporary closures are not always reflected – when in doubt, call ahead.

Menus, prices and busy hours

Menus on business pages show the products usually sold by that type of business with typical Australian price ranges. They are indicative, not the official menu of the shop. Busy-hour charts are estimates based on the usual rhythm of the trade and the shop’s hours, not live counts.

Photos

Unless a photo is credited to the business, pictures on business pages are illustrations from Wikimedia Commons under free licences, credited on each image. They show typical products, not the shop itself.

Reviews

Visitor reviews are moderated before publication. We never publish ratings without real reviews on the page and we do not edit the meaning of a review.
